International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad

The International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (अंतरराष्ट्रीय सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान हैदराबाद, IIIT, HyderabadIIIT-H) is an autonomous university in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. It was established in 1998, and has now emerged as one of the most prestigious institutes of the country. It emphasizes research from the undergraduate level, which makes it different from the other leading engineering institutes in India like the IITs. It has been a consistent performer from India in ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) and finished at #18 last year.  Raj Reddy, the only Indian to win the Turing Award, is the chairman of the board of governors.
The institute runs IT courses and IT research projects and is heavily focused on research related to computation. It gives the students interaction with industry, preparation in entrepreneurship and personality development courses.

Location

The institute is in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, which is about 10 km from the old city and the central railway station. It is close to HITEC City (a centre housing software development centres of companies like Microsoft, Oracle Corporation, Motorola, Infosys and GE Capital) and the presence of IT majors from across the globe right on the campus through their schools and research centers. The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, in Shamshabad, is close by.

Academics

IIIT Hyderabad offers undergraduate, postgraduate and dual degree programmess. Undergraduate programmes award either Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) or B.Tech (Honors) in Computer Science or Electronics and Communication Engineering, while postgraduate programmes award either Master of Technology (M.Tech), Master of Science (M.S) or Master of Philosophy (M.Phil). Dual degree programmes award B.Tech/M.S. The dual degrees offer M.S. in Computer Science, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computational Natural Science, Computational Linguistics and Exact Humanities along with a B.Tech. Positions for Ph.D degrees are also available and the institute also offers post graduate diploma studies. The institute lays a great importance on "Human Values" and professional ethics.

Admissions

Admissions for undergraduate and dual degrees were taken through AIEEE i.e. CCB (Central Counseling board) counseling until the year 2009.
From the academic batch 2010 (known as UG2k10) the institute revised the admission procedure and decided on independent selection students though still considering the merit achievements of AIEEE. The institute also selects students based on interviews and Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY).
Admissions for postgraduate studies are on the basis of the Postgraduate Entrance Exam (PGEE) conducted by IIIT-H.
Admissions to the MSIT programme run at this institute are based on a test conducted every year from April to May.

Consortium of Institutions of Higher Learning (CIHL)
IIIT Hyderabad is part of CIHL along with JNTU Hyderabad, Osmania University, Andhra University and Sri Venkateswara University offer the Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) program in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh (CMU) from 2001 on wards. MSIT program is offered at all the member universities of CIHL along with IIIT Hyderabad. CMU provides a companion certificate to all those who successfully complete the program. CIHL office is located inside the IIIT Hyderabad campus.
Dr.Raj Reddy is the Chairman of CIHL and also a Governing Council member of IIIT Hyderabad. The governing council of CIHL is Dr. M Venkateswarlu, Sri MG Gopal (IAS), Sri Sanjay Jaju (IAS), Dr. K Lakshmi Narayana (IAS), Dr. P Prakash, Prof. Rameshwar Rao, Prof. Rajeev Sangal, Prof. M Satyanarayana and Prof. M Sreenivasa Rao form

IIIT-Hyderabad has been ranked #3 in the list of top technical schools in India by Dataquest. It was ranked #20 by the India Today Best Engineering colleges 2012, #14 by Outlook India Top Engineering Colleges of 2012 In rankings limited to private institutes it was ranked second by Mint Top 50 Private Engineering Colleges of 2009. In 2011 and 2012, IIIT Hyderabad was ranked first in Andhra Pradesh, by Careers360, a magazine of the Outlook group.  Deccan Chronicle ranked IIIT Hyderabad second in their 2012 survey of Top Engineering Colleges in South India.
